Outside the Office: Payments Canada

When is the last time you saw a car exhibited in a payments oriented conference? Well that’s what we had at the Payments Canada Payments Summit 2019 in Toronto, Canada. Sirius XM was exhibiting their e-wallet solution allowing payments utilizing their app and partnership with Visa. Just an example of how Payment solutions continue to evolve, The Payment Summit drew a wide variety of attendees from banks, credit unions, government and exhibitors from across Canada as well as a few from the USA and Europe.

Payment modernization, and all of the changes and resulting challenges and opportunities going on in the financial institutions ecosystem, were a big focus of the conference; and Panini’s exhibited solutions were right on target. Panini’s Everest architecture allowing customers unprecedented freedom from the traditional limitations of workstation driven, API-connected, image capture environments generated significant interest from the attendees who visited our booth. We demonstrated m:IDeal for RDC small business and EverneXt for the retail branch.

We also had interest from a number of credit unions, banks and government organizations in Card Instant Issuance as they look to expand customer service. In the case of some of the municipalities, they see opportunities with loadable benefit cards as an alternative. We were able to meet with many of the attendees coming by our booth to present Panini Instant Issuance solutions. All were impressed and remarked on the quality of the cards we print.

Toronto is a very vibrant city, and Francesco and I were able to meet outside of the conference hours with some of our customers and enjoy some of the things Toronto has to offer- including great food and entertainment. We had dinner at the CN tower, an engineering marvel with a revolving restaurant high above the city skyline and also attended a MLS soccer match between Toronto and DC United. Great match that Toronto dominated shots on goal but ended in a scoreless draw. Great venue and fan enthusiasm.

The Payments Summit was a success and a lot of fun. I love coming to Toronto and the other major cities in Canada to visit with our customers and enjoy the wonderful hospitality and spirit that they have.
